In fact, in a receiver of the AN/ARC-5 system, the AF stage output transformer secondary is **not** connected to the front panel plug for the adapter panel.
The R-23*, R-24, and R-148 receivers get a special filtered AF signal from the cathode circuit of the 12A6 that is used by the MX-19/ARC-5 adapter panel when the receiver is used as MF localizer for the AN/ARN-9 Air-Track ILS. But that's it for AN/ARC-5.
Only ARA and SCR-274-N receivers connect AF transformer secondary to the front panel adapter plug...but none of the local control adapter panels for ARA, SCR-274-N, or AN/ARC-5 had a phone jack in the adapter.
It would be much better to connect your proposed external control panel to the receiver through the receiver's rear apron connector...just like the system was designed to support.
