AN/ARC-30 is two AN/ARC-12 configured for repeater service. Same as AN/ARC-28 except the latter used two AN/ARC-1's
And the UHF-AM AN/ARC-12 is not to!! be confused...as so many hams do...with the VHF-AM A.R.C. Type 12. Radionerds makes that mistake right now...I'll tell Chris Story next time I see him. The RT-58/ARC-12 slides into the rack of an AN/ARC-1 in place of the RT-18 or RT-18A/ARC-1 to make a 10-channel crystal-controlled UHF set. Fair Radio sold RT-58/ARC-12 units 50 years ago.
The only two components with "ARC-39" markings are the RT-427/ARC-39 (with internal 28vdc dynamotor) and the C-2241/ARC-39 control panel. The RT mount is MT-605A/APR-9. About 35 years ago Fair Radio sold the RT-427 and C-2241. I bought those then, and later found a complete set including mount some other place. I've seen a fair number of RT-427s over the years, typically populated with crystals in a few of the six 2 to 4.3 MHz channels, but often only one or no channels filled of the six 4.3 to 9.1 MHz positions. I would not consider the AN/ARC-39 anything more than somewhat uncommon. It's a well known set among military radio collectors.
It has been pointed out that the set is AM only...no CW, no BFO.
It is made by Aircraft Radio Corporation...the last HF equipment that A.R.C. ever made! They were made under contract NOas 59-0246 in 1959. My complete set RT and C units have Pensacola overhaul stickers for first quarter 1970. I suspect the AN/ARC-39 saw use only in training and utility aircraft. It was very limited in capability and very out-dated for 1959...characteristic for A.R.C. designs after 1940, IMHO.
