There's a lot to like about that radio, except the crystal controlled aspect.
In the alignment section, they show applying a signal generator to the crystal socket, so it's an instant VFO.
However, too many boxes for me! Too bad it's not built-in.

Subject: Re: [ARC5] RT-427 AN/ARC-30 It is bacically a ARC built transceiver that covers the full range of the command sets, but in a single 1 ATR box. Modernized, of course. Very nice rig, especially if not modified. Give it an antenna, 28VDC, a mic and HS, and you are off to the races! Scott V. Johnson W7SVJ5111 E. Subject: Re: [ARC5] RT-427 AN/ARC-30 The EBay seller appears to have made a typo in the description - it's the RT-427/ARC-39. If you zoom on the front panel image, you can see ARC-39 on the ID plate. 6 channel crystal control HF set, made by ARC in the 50s. I think Walt Hutchens did an ER in Uniform column on this set back in the early 90s. On Sunday, January 17, 2016 9:52 AM, David Stinson <arc5 at ix.netcom.com> wrote: RT-427 AN/ARC-30
This is an interesting radio.
Anyone know anything about it?
