That makes smile to hear that.  My hope was for it to be a good AM BC 
receiver, so as long as I get it working properly I'll be very happy!

Did you power it off of the dynamotor, or external AC supply?

The one I got yesterday...well...it must have been in a barn, as lots of 
"mouse evidence" on the outside.  It has an Air Ministry (A crown M) tag 
on the case under the crud.  I'm not the first one to experience the 
stuck case; there exist obvious pry marks from previous owner(s) and the 
front plate is so distorted that the slots on the gearbox output don't 
intermesh with the little nubbins on the drive input to the tubing cap. 
  The tuning cap was seized but a little light lubricant fixed that up. 
  I haven't given it a real good look internally yet.  May end up being 
better than a parts unit, we'll see.

The other one that I've had for a while is about average on the 
outside...but pristine on the inside.  It appears to have one 
modification, the additional of 40uF HV cap that I don't yet understand. 
  Easily removed.
