Again, thanks for the quick replies! I checked the receiver and it still works fine with the AC supply. I didn't check the B+ current draw but will before I put a dynamotor in (If I ever resolve this). I checked the 24 volt current draw of the dynamotor and got 3.2 amps with the HV brushes in and 3.1 amps with them out. It is supposed to draw 1.28 amps. I also checked between the commutator sections on the low voltage side and they are all 0.3 ohms between adjacent sectors. I also checked to see if any were grounded and none were. The armature doesn't smell like it was cooked but I am beginning to think that I have a bad armature. I think the current draw being so high is pretty telling and also explains the heat.
One thing surprising to me is that there aren't a zillion on these dynamotors around because there must be thousands of these radios converted to AC.
