Ken - Sorry I confused who was having the problem?
Also the brush insulator could be cracked?
If as you say dynamotor:
1. not hooked up to the radio,
2. running free with the brushes in,
3. no CAPACITOR mounted across the HV brushes,
Causing a short. The Brush dust would provide some resistance I guess
if packed into the crack, but not much.
