GlenI don't follow politics that closely but I think I remember hearing of false flag phone solicitations that where intended to do exactly what you suggest.

Maybe the calls are really from opponents to antagonize voters against that particular candidate!

Here's what confuses me about those political robo-calls: how do candidates expect to get votes by pissing people off? Those calls are really annoying.
