[ARC5] 73 Rag and Roy E. Pafenberg W4WKM

Does anyone know what happened to Roy/W4WKM after his 73 Rag days?  I always enjoyed reading about some of the surplus gear before his typically draconian conversion of it began.

All I know is he had been a US Army Major in WWII and Korea, died in 1996, and had given up his ham license at least three years before passing.  That sort of thing often indicates some mental infirmity in later years, but I hope it was something much better for the old veteran.
