[ARC5] Radio Electronics Magazine

CQ Magazine is still around although they were not getting magazines to subscribers about a year ago with all sorts of excuses being given.  I understand that they have been getting magazines out on time since around the beginning of this year.

However, CQ Magazine has had a reputation of not paying authors promptly for decades and even never paying a number of those persons.  I understand that this is still a problem (from comments by others who have written articles for the magazine).  I quit writing the FM Column in August of 1973 when CQ got slightly over $1000 behind in paying for the columns and other articles.  They have never paid anything to even try to get this settled.  However, I did have my revenge in that, when it was discovered that I was no longer writing the column, several full page advertisers, as well as a number of half-page advertisers and quarter-page advertisers, immediately stopped advertising in the magazine.  At the full page rate during that time period, it would have taken less than payments from 2 advertisers, for a single month, to get "even" with me.  Instead of paying the about $1000, they lost between $5000 and $10,000 every month in advertising revenue!

The Cowans sold their interests to others quite a while back.  Then, the new owners bought Ham Radio Magazine.  At the time of the sale, I was owed for certain articles that had been published in Ham Radio Magazine.  That magazine had a policy of paying authors just after the publication of the article (this is VERY common in the magazine arena) and my articles had just been published when CQ Magazine bought Ham Radio Magazine.  Yes, I never got paid for the articles that were published in Ham Radio Magazine.  That added to the debt owed me by CQ Magazine.  With compound interest, that $1000 owed from 1973 has grown into a sizable amount of money.  Of course, I will never see one cent of that!

The same company that published CQ also published Popular Communications (or was it Monitoring Times...?); and if I remember right, CQ absorbed Worldradio about 5-6 years back (what a pity!).
Am I correct in thinking that CQ has died, along with these other publications?
I visited a CQ Magazine booth at the Charlotte, NC hamfest in 2008 or 2009, and heard their pitch for selling subscriptions, how the magazine was "looking for ways to meet your needs."  I came away with the impression that CQ was a walking dead horse looking for a hole to fall into.  Mostly endless contest reports, and an ad rag.
