I understand that while here in the US NDB use MCW Morse Code signals for ID, that in at least some foreign countries the NDBs use CW. As a result, many ADF's and other aircraft receivers used to receive NDB's, even civilian models, have BFO's.
I'm going to have to hook up the ARN-89 I acquired and see how it works. It covers from LF up to 3MHZ. I don't have the bearing indicator but have both the directional and nondirectional antennas.
Anyone ever try using the 160 - 190 KHZ band for unlicensed operation? >From what I recall, you can use up to 1 watt ERP. I'm sure a BC-453 can be adjusted down that low but some European car radios have LW coverage down to about 150 KHZ.
