[ARC5] What is a "radio range filter"?

For instance, the area around Los Angeles served by independent
power companies like Burbank were 50Hz. I am not sure when this changed
but certainly was the case until after WW-2. Electric clocks for both
frequencies were available.
When I was a little kid my parents went to the Canadian side of
Niagra falls and I remember the flickering of the lights on 25Hz power.
25Hz power was used in the U.S. also but mostly for electric railway and
similar purposes where driving large motors was desired. The
Pennsylvania Railroad ran its electric rail line on 25Hz current. Some
years ago they decided to investigate chaning to 60Hz so they could
purchase power. Too expensive so they stuck with what they had.
