Spinners in that condition are usually frozen by corrosion of the
aluminum axle inside the black acetyl copolymer spinner knob. The knob
assembly can be taken apart for repair by driving the riveted parts
apart. The exploded view with assembly details
is at the bottom of the page at
http://aafradio.org/garajmahal/flex_drive_cables.html for anyone finding
themselves in that situation. If anyone needs a new black acetyl
copolymer spinner knob (they often split when the aluminum corrosion on
the axle expands enough), I have a couple extra I turned out on the
lathe a while back for the cost of a first class stamp. I usually
lubricate the axle with some Teflon grease before reassembling the
spinner assembly back onto the spinner disk - it provides the best
lubricant film I have found for plastic parts.
