While studying my favorite tube book the other day (TO 16-1-255 dated Feb 1952) it occurred to me that we use indirectly heated cathodes to prevent the hum from AC operated filaments from entering into the circuit.

And in one sense, all the circuit from the April 1962 73 mag does is take advantage of that vulnerability to introduce "voice audio modulated hum" into the cathode and thence into the circuit.
