While the article doesn't name a transistor to be used for
Q1-Q3, or for Q4, it does say the following:
"Any NPN transistors can be used for Q1-Q3, providing
their Beta is 30 or greater. Q4 must be chosen by the
amount of cathode current that will flow through it." So for Q1-Q3, from the internet, how about:
"The 2N3904 is a common NPN bipolar junction transistor used
for general purpose low-power amplifying or switching applications.
It is a 200 mA, 40 volt, 625 milliwatt transistor with a transition
frequency of 300 MHz, with a minimum beta or current gain of
100 at a collector current of 10 mA. It is used in a variety of
analog amplification and switching applications."
For Q4, from the internet, what about:
TIP 50, 1 Amp Power NPN Transistor. 400 volts, 40 watts.
This series is designed for line operated audio output amplifier,
switch-mode power supply drivers and other switching
applications. Available in TO−220 Plastic Package.
I hope others with SS expertise will comment whether these
transistors will work properly in the ARC-5 modulator circuit
presented in the 73 magazine article.
