Boy! You're telling me! At something like $50+ a pop, I intend to take VERY
good care of mine.
BTW, and FYI, there is a fellow who advertises on eBay at regular intervals
who makes a superb solid-state version of the 1L6. He mounts them all
inside glass tube envelopes, and his prices are more than reasonable.
He also made me, as special orders, solid-state versions of the 1T4 for my
R-1004 receivers.
Although, when using the original 1L6, I experience severe "pulling" of the
HFO when either using the transmitter on or near the receive frequency, or
when receiving a strong signal, when using the solid-state version, the
receiver is as steady as a rock, zero "pulling" being noticed.
Zero-beating is thus a trivial experience with the AN/GRC-109 instead of
being fraught with frustration.
Furthermore, and although I have not yet tested this, it "appears" to my ears
as though the receiver is both more sensitive and less noisy when using the
solid-state "tubes" in place of the glass ones.
I bought the solid-state versions with a view to "saving" my glass tubes.
YMMV
