FWIW, here are URLs to manuals for these sets:

RS-6

The last version of the AN/GRC-109 consists of:

R-1004A/GRC-109, T-784A/GRC-109, PP-2685A/GRC-109, CN-690A/GRC-109A, etc.

These have the covers affixed by side clasps. These were made by Oklahoma Aerotronics on 1969 contract DAAB 05-69-C-1302 (Pretty late date for such old technology). Of minor note is RECEIVER on the nomenclature tag for the R-1004A is mis-spelled RECIEVER.

I would not say that the RS-6 is "much later" than the RS-1. :-) The RS-6 manual errata (link above) is dated 1953, likely just a few years after the RS-1.

I have all these common miniature HF radios, including the AN/PRC-64, the AN/TRC-77, and an almost complete RT-655/TRC-88 (USB and CW version of the RT-654/TRC-77. My personal favorite it the TAR-224A, 2.0 to 24.0 MHz (A1, A3) crystal-controlled 20 watt transmitter with auto antenna tuner. These were all solid-state and made in 1971 by AVCO Electronics. Very interesting set!
