[ARC5] [Bulk] Re: RU, GF, and What Else?

I rather suspect that the main reason for the long service life of the GF/RU, GO-9, GP etc and the SCR-183/283 is that changing the production lines to accomodate new wiring harnesses, mounts, etc etc for newer types of gear would have resulted in unacceptable production delays.
This is also very likely why the B-17 and B-24 continued to be fitted with the BC-375 until war's end instead of the far more capable ART-13.

As far as I know, the F4F carried the GF/RU throughout its production.  And the PBY carried the GO-9/RU-series for its entire production life; although the PBY may have been upgraded with new radio gear post-war.  The F4F was one of those types "gotten rid of" by shoving them overboard on the trip back to the States when the carriers became personnel transports.
I've seen a surplus-dealer ad in an issue of Radio News from about 1947, offering entire brand-new, unused radio mounting trays for the F4F, all fully fitted out with the GF/RU gear.  These subassemblies were left when F4F production was halted at the end of the war.
Note, the aircraft which carried the ART-13/ATC -- B-29, PB4Y-2, TBF/TBM, SB2C -- all entered production after the war began.
Yes, the later P-40s (particularly K, L, M, N) were fitted with the SCR-274-N and/or SCR-522, rather than the SCR-183/283.  The late P-40s appeared in 1942-43.

I have a copy of the radio portion of the Erection and Maintenance
manual for the SBD-5, dated April 1943

Electronics gear mentioned specifically is the GP-7, RU-19, ZB, ASB
radar, and ABK IFF.

I am assuming that the interphone function was handled by the GP
installation.

It is a remarkable set of electronics for a small aircraft like the
Dauntless.
