Many of the later war torpedo bombers, Patrol and Scout bomber aircraft in
the Navy had the ART-13 or earlier ATC etc. Often paired with the ARB as in
our Harpoon. Our Harpoon carried a pair of ARB's.
Speaking of the O-47 radios; does anyone have a spare BC-310 Radio Compass
to part with? A very cool looking direction finder with local and remote
control capability. I would love one for the collection.

I have a picture of a BC-224-A installed in a North American O-47. The O-47
was a battlefield reconnaissance aircraft, powered bay single R-1820 engine
with a crew of 2 or 3. It was about the size of a fighter plane and looked
like the SBD's ugly cousin.
Also, I have the preliminary pilot's manual for the Curtiss SB2C Helldiver.
It says the airplane was equipped with an ART-13 transmitter. I figured
that was an error, using that size transmitter in a single engined airplane,
but in fact I guess it makes some sense. The SB2C was a "scout bomber" so
it also theoretically had a role as a reconnaissance airplane and thus a
need for longer range communications. The HF receiver is not specified but
it seemed to have used the C-126/ARC MHF Receiver Mixture panel. VHF was
the ARC-1.
I guess that the Grumman TBM Avenger of that era was similarly equipped.
