[ARC5] Broadcast band Transmitters

As for the "Why" of AM broadcast and LW band aircraft transmitters, I have wondered about that for a while and have found only one application.  The 21st Air Force equipped its B-29's operating out of Saipan equipped a certain number of its B-29's with LW/AM broadcast band oscillators for the ART-13's  This was because the aircraft could broadcast on those frequencies and allow other aircraft to use their ADF to home in on the broadcasting aircraft for rendezvous purposes, including rescue of downed aircrew.

Of course, not only B-29's but virtually all multiengine aircraft by that time were equipped with ADF equipment, which for the most part covered the AM broadcast band frequencies, including OA-10 rescue aircraft.
