[ARC5] Halogen Light Power Supplies

A while back I mentioned that I have found when I turn on the Halogen lights I installed in my kitchen considerable RF noise gets generated.

Recently two of the three lights quit working. Tests with a DVOM seemed to indicate the power supply was putting out insufficient voltage, so I purchased a new power supply on ebay (12V 60VA output) and today finally got it installed - and got the same results as the old power supply.

Turns out that I had not a bad power supply but two burned out bulbs that quit more or less simultaneously. And it appears that the frequency of the AC output voltage of both the old and new power supplies is so high as to not be readable accurately with a DVOM. No wonder I had so much RFI!

In any case, if you are going to check the output of such power supplies better use an Oscope.
