[ARC5] Audio output transformers...

I am running across more and more receivers which have damaged,
essentially destroyed, audio output transformers. Either the primary or (more
often) the secondary simply opens up.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

Might anyone know what is causing this?

Are there any possible replacements which DO NOT require "adding" holes?

Is anyone aware of a stash of NIB ARC-5 audio output transformers
somewhere? (I realize there were actually at least 3 different kinds).

The few original audio output transformers I have seen on ePay sell for way
too much...like $50.00 each.

AFAIK, the audio output transformers in the ubiquitous (or which used to be
ubiquitous) AA-5 receivers would be very close to correct,
input-impedance-wise, although output impedance was generally 3.2 ohms.

I suppose one could mount one of those on a plate which had three holes
drilled and tapped to match the original mounting holes in the receiver...

Since I began to try to refurbish to working condition the many
hacked-to-death receivers I have here, I am finding several in which the job
is brought to a stand-still for want of an audio output transformer...

Your thoughts?
