I have two BC-221-AKs which I use regularly too.

The fact that that one has "Modulation", would indicate to me that it isn't a 
BC-221, but an LM.

Most BC-221s did not have the modulation capability. Only the BC-221-AJ 
-AK and -AL had it, but ALL LMs had that.

That '221 which have modulation capability, have it on the same switch with 
the other modes. I'm not sure about the LM, but I thought they all had a 
separate MOD on/off switch...like that one does.
