How are you deriving the screen grid voltage? From the same source as
the plate voltage via a dropper resistor or voltage divider?

Take a close look at the bare wires in the vicinity of the 1625 socket
pins. When you push a 1625 in, does one of its pins protrude far
enough to contact a bare screen wire? Those wires run awful close to
the pins and their terminations.
