I suggested to Joel that instead of a bifilar winding on L-1, the RF amp input
coil, he instead wind a single-layer secondary winding of the number of turns
necessary to resonate with the 365 pfd cap at the frequency of interest, then
wind a primary winding of only a few turns, say about 5, over the "bottom"
end of that secondary in order to achieve a better match to a 50 ohm system.
I suspect that Don Stoner used the Miller coils because he figured that most
Novices of the time would be using random length end-fed wire antennas of
unknown, but probably "high", impedance.
I also suggested to Joel that a bifilar winding for L-2 would quite suitable.
