I suggested to Joel that instead of a bifilar winding on L-1, the RF amp input 
coil, he instead wind a single-layer secondary winding of the number of turns 
necessary to resonate with the 365 pfd cap at the frequency of interest, then 
wind a primary winding of only a few turns, say about 5, over the "bottom" 
end of that secondary in order to achieve a better match to a 50 ohm system.

I suspect that Don Stoner used the Miller coils because he figured that most 
Novices of the time would be using random length end-fed wire antennas of 
unknown, but probably "high", impedance.

I also suggested to Joel that a bifilar winding for L-2 would quite suitable.
