DYnamotors are pretty sturdy for the most part.  Just make sure you clean/lube the bearings before you do anything. Then the other most likely suspects are the caps, brushes or commutator problems.I posted about one that I was having trouble with recently which I believe had commutator issues. Sometimes cleaning the grooves out will solve the problem. I haven't had the time to try that yet though. There was another one that had "bound up" brushes on the LV side which caused it to be totally dead.
The odds of two dynos crapping out is pretty slim IMO. Try bench testing them with a resistive load drawing half the rated current and see what voltage you get.
The radio is more like to be the culpret here.

  Mark -
There are brushes, and caps in the dynamotor housing!  Could be anything - Bad brush or shorted
Caps mounted inside, on  the end bells?

Fuse could or should have blown. if there was a short.

So you hooked the dynamotor up, to the radio circuit before you checked the radio out for shorted caps?

 Good luck
 Hutch

I just restored a BC-348R that someone had unsuccessfully tried to convert to AC operation.  My dynamotor lasted about 10 minutes and then quit!  Does anyone have an armature (or dynamotor) they would be willing to part with?  If so, please let me know off net about price etc.  The dynomotor is a DM-28-Q.Thanks!   Mark, W0PXM
