Hi Mark and others,
You need to take the end caps off of dynamotors, clean the old grease out of
the bearings, and re-grease the bearings before ever running a dynamotor as
the grease in most of them is now nothing but wax.
It's easy to do and, if you are careful and use a small brush and a flat
toothpick, you can remove the old grease using a small amount of lacquer
thinner without removing the bearings. Use a good, modern bearing grease
and re-grease the bearings using a flat toothpick. Don't use too much
grease.
I have done many BC-348, SC-247N, TCS, and ARC-5 dynamotors this way and
they all work very well. I operate my BC-348s and ARC-5s from 24 Volts. I
don't think I will live long enough to wear out the dynamotors.
Happy New Year!

Mark, et-al
If you plan to use the BC-348 regularly an AC supply is not a bad idea idea.
A dynamotor is good for only some finite number of hours. I operate a pair
of
BC-348s here. One as originally configured pairs with my BC-375 and ART-13.
The other is equiped with an AC supply for general use.

I just restored a BC-348R that someone had unsuccessfully tried to convert
to AC operation. My dynamotor lasted about 10 minutes and then quit! Does
anyone have an armature (or dynamotor) they would be willing to part with?
If so, please let me know off net about price etc. The dynomotor is a
DM-28-Q.Thanks!
