The "octal" sockets that Wayne referred to in his original post, and the 
BC-733 sockets, aren't octal. They only have 4 pins.

The R-28/ARC-5 sockets have the center hole with the clearance for the 
tab like an octal, but the BC-733 socket does not have the center hole.

Just more arcane trivia.

Then there were the dual FT-243 sockets, that in brown were used in the
BC-611, and in black, used by Motorola in countless thousands of 
Research Line and T-power 2 way radios.
