The Setchell-Carlson 512 has the JAN nomenclature of R-76/ARR-13. It requires HV and 14 vdc was intended to get that power from the RCA AVA-126 vibrator PS that was part of the RCA AVR-20-A1/AVT-112 MF/HF set for light observation aircraft. The 512 also has a 278 kHz srlect switch.

There is also the Setchell-Carlson 591 which uses a combined A and B dry-battery power source. Its JAN nomenclature is AN/CRR-1. It was to be supplied on USAAF aircraft flying in arctic regions as an emergency receiver used along with the SCR-578-* Gibson Girl 500 kHz A2 transmitter for two-way MF communication, although the 591 frequency coverage is 200 to 420 kHz A2/A3 and does not reach 500 kHz.

The JAN nomenclature for the 512 is stamped in red paint on the panel. For the 591 it appears only in the instuction booklet.
