There is a similar "no call" list here in the United States. That does cut down the number of unwanted calls considerably. However, there are still those companies that ignore this list even though there are severe penalties for violating this.
One thing that these callers now do is to "spoof" the caller i.d. system an put what seems to be individuals, organizations, etc., instead of their real name. The telephone number is also spoofed to prevent someone from calling back and identifying the caller or to use the number for filing a complaint. Doing such is very easy these days using a computer. In Australia we have a register that allows a household to list their
phone on a 'do not call' register.
The problem is that the register must be re-done every three years.
