I suspect the situation is the reverse...most likely he has a pretty common
AN/ARC-5 transmitter that he's trying to fit into a very common SCR-274-N
transmitter rack. That's a total NO GO mechanically due to the different
sized transmitter connectors, and a total NO GO electrically due to the very
different connections made to the pins. In that case...SCR-274-N transmitters
are very easily and cheaply obtained. The *correct* unit will be very easy to
obtain.
AN/ARC-5 racks are an order of magnitude more scare than the common
SCR-274-N racks. If a person has an intact AN/ARC-5 rack, the last thing
that should be done is to modify it in any way. Sell it or keep it for a
later AN/ARC-5 collection. (I have three-receiver/two-transmitter ARA/ATA,
SCR-274-N, and AN/ARC-5 systems in my collection...after swearing 20 years
ago that I would never go beyond the SCR-274-N!)
The required manuals are readily available that show the differences between
the SCR-274-N ( http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/military/scr274/ ) and
the AN/ARC-5 ( http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/military/an-arc5/ ).
