I still have my MITS Altair 680b microcomputer. Wonder if it would still work. Last fired it up more than 15 years ago.

Radio Shack is not the only company to make wrong decisions in marketing!
The Ford Motor Company, with the Edsel, lost a substantial amount of money.
Then, when the Mustang was put in production, none of the tooling, etc., was
made for extended use because management just knew that the vehicle was not
going to be that popular. Wrong! A good high school friend, who also was an
amateur radio operator, got his engineering degree from Purdue University.
After graduating, his first employer was the Ford Motor Company. His primary
job was to redesign the Mustang tooling for extended production.
Then, there was the debacle of "new Coke"!
By the way, I still have my original Radio Shack TRS-80 Model I computer! It is
in a box stored in my garage.

As far as I am concerned, Radio Shack hierarchy has always had a very
serious problem with marketing. They always seem to do exactly the wrong
thing. They appear to be incapable of marketing their way out of a paper
bag.
For instance, when someone in the RS organization managed to, over
strenuous opposition from "the powers that be", design and build the first
truly personal computer, the TRS-80 Model 1, someone decided that they
could possibly sell, oh, maybe 1000 units in a year.
When the thing debuted at some show somewhere (I've forgotten which)
they sold over 1000 units the first DAY and at one time were 6 months
behind in orders.
Furthermore, the hierarchy never did figure that one out...
I have been surprised that they lasted as long as they have.
