Hi Mike,

From context I would guess they used about 200 or 300 frequencies in
about 5 or 10 minutes since he drifted outside the 200 Hz filter
passband from, presumably, the center of said passband. Sorry - I
couldn't resist. I know you really meant to ask about the spot frequency
(dial) in the band.

It's so easy to find transmitters that have just a little bit of
"character". If you use any of the digital signal processing software
with your receiver - even if just as a "panadapter" (it works great for
that by the way) you can see them coming before they even get there by
the little telltale hooks, squigglies, and slopes on the dits and dahs.
And then when you dial them into your passband they are very easy to
copy right through QRM. I'm considering adding some of that to my
"sterile" signals. Calling frequencies seem like a good idea but in the
ham bands they seem to be a 'sideshow' that nobody can agree on with the
wanted signals appearing at random throughout the bands. It probably
won't work but I'll wish you the best of luck with yet another calling
frequency/watering hole. Sometimes they actually work as planned.

I don't have any ex-mil transmitters and no plans to acquire any but
I'll be happy enough to work any of them. I might even use an ex-mil
receiver. I have several.

73,

Bill KU8H
