[ARC5] EASY fine black wrinkle!

I use the Valspar "Stone" for the crackle finish. It has been my experience that the #11439 Alabaster works best. When oversprayed with an acrylic paint, and that paint allowed to "cure" for between 48-hours and 72-hours, the finish is quite hard and lasts for a long time.

I think it's available in gray, and maybe a beige or tan. Perhaps other colors. Check the Rust-Oleum web site to be sure.

If you need a color other than black, pick the lightest of the truck bed paints that you can find and then overspray that with a color of your choice. This will of course make the finish thicker, but it also will tone down the sandpaper-like feel of the truck bed paint alone.

I did that using a product called "Stone Creations" -- an aerosol paint that results in a much deeper wrinkle -- to refinish the panel and cabinet on an RME-45B receiver which originally was blue-gray wrinkle. After first using a self-etching primer on the surface, I put on a wrinkle base with a very light cream stone color, then oversprayed this with a slate blue (as close as I could come to the original color). This was followed by a clear overcoat. The "stone" wrinkle was so deep that the extra thickness of the following paints didn't hurt the effect.

The RME came out looking nice; but I believe the truck bed paint gives a considerably more durable finish. I'd use the bed paint if I had it to do over.
