[ARC5] T-22 Good News Bad News

The T-22 and rack I bought on ebay arrived.

The good news is that it appears to be a perfectly unmolested ARC-5/T-22. The screws were even all still in place and the antenna relay is still there as is the Magic Eye tube and the 8870 KHZ crystal. I have not opened the bottom panel or performed a line by line verification of the circuit but I expect it should be Okay.

Also the rack looks good. A right angle piece of AL was slipped under the locking ring for the left connector to hold an 8 pin octal tube socket. Sockets were used to connect the octal socket to the original connector; they did not even use solder to do it.

A two pin mike type connector was added to the side of the rack's rear box. I suspect this was to enable modulation. This is easy to fix and may even be useful. The wrinkle finish paint on both the transmitter and the rack is in remarkably good shape.

Now the bad news. Before the unit was packed it suffered significant damage. There is a large dent in the right side of the main cover, next to the right 1625. The front panel is bent back a bit and the antenna connector is broken entirely off. The fact that the damage occurred before shipment is confirmed by not only the fact that the shipping box was still in excellent shape but by the fact that someone took the remains of the antenna connector and stuck it under the rear hinged cover.

This is all fixable. I even have a gutted 5.3-7 MHZ transmitter I can rob the antenna connector from.

I have contacted the seller, who responded that the unit was not damaged before shipment and asked for details. I responded with a description of the damage and re-emphasized the fact it had to happen before shipment.

So, I guess it is another case of easy come, easy go....
