I’m doing some edumakated speculating. Refer again to that article by Mr White, “Command Receivers for All Frequencies…” In the last paragraph he offers to sell the 3 4200 kcs IF cans for the outrageously expensive price of , gasp!, $2. Hmmmm.

That means spare parts were on the surplus market, potentially including the tuning dial. This would make conversion simple. Even though the 9/13 mcs set was navy, it was part of the RAV/RAT series. The ARC series is quite different, like a first cousin. The SCR 274 and RAV/RAT sets are more like twin siblings. Using a BC455 would essentially be remove, replace, realign, done. I think everyone on this forum could modify the RF and IF coils to do a conversion “the ARC way”. The only thing not easily made is the tuning dial, and the one in the photo looked genuine or a really, really good repro.
