I'm not going to, but I WOULD be extremely interested in how the Brits did

You may not remember my battle with a BC-454 which had been 
incompletely and poorly modifed to cover (supposely) 27 - 30 MHz. It didn't, 
and couldn't, since there was not enough delta-C left in the main tuning 
capacitor.

I described my battle with it, in detail, here, and finally achieved a useful 
receiver which covers from 28 to 30 MHz.
