Terry,
I also wish to get a BC-AO-230 back on the air. I will use it to make my
first contact after many years of keeping my license, but not operating.
A recent 3 level lumbar decompression surgery with rods cured my neurogenic
claudication, but left me enormously worse. So, I recently decided to
return to Ham Radio. My wife is setting up an area in our walk-out basement
that will have a few work benches with the appropriate tools. This, for
many reasons, will take a month or two more to complete. So, I eventually
hope to follow along with David Stinson and the others on the pre-ARC-5
radios.
I had read through all 12 years of ARC-5 posts. I copied and pasted
everything pertaining to pre-ARC-5 radios to one Word file. I will email
this to you. I recently ordered TO 08-10-158 RADIO SET SCR-AS-183,
OPERATION & MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
<http://www.vendio.com/stores/wa5cab/item/to-08-10-158-radio-set-scr-as-/lid=24422470>
from WA5CAB.COM. I just ordered it, so I cannot describe the contents. He
might be able to make the 253 page TM 11-200 available for sale. This
early 1940’s Technical Manual seems to be devoted entirely to the
SCR-183/283 radios. There is a 45 page pdf you can download. It does
contain both the schematics and the wiring diagrams.

You may have already found this.
I only have one C-285/385 coil set for 40 meters. I hope to modify my
C-381, as suggested by David Stinson, for 80 meters.
I love these pre-ARC-5 radios, but they do *require a lot of homework* on
our part, as the information available is very limited. There is no hand
holding with these. But, that will be the fun and the challenge of getting
these back on the air. So you have a lot of homework to do.
