>From at least 1937 through 1965, I never saw a set or component with a
Signal Corps Contract Number on it. A Contract was a broad open-ended
agreement that mostly said something like "yeah, we'll build whatever widgets you
want for the duration". Most nameplates (not all) include the Signal Corps
Order Number. The number on the rear of the chassis is not a Signal Corps
Order Number. Wrong syntax. My guess is that it's a subcontract identifier
between A.R.C. and WECo.
