The other day I was watching a TV show about the Philippines in WWII.  

They had an interview with a US agent dropped into the islands to gather intelligence.  He said "It was just me and my radio."  I watched for any details of the radio used, and sure enough, they had a little re-enactment.  It involved a hand crank generator - and two BC-221's!

I had no idea those frequency meters were so versatile!
