    The Hungarian patriots in 1957 did reasonably well against Soviet tanks.
It was the supporting infantry that beat them down. Molotov cocktails in the
engine compartment can spoil the whole day for tankers. 
Tanks have troubles in urban fighting, or without accompanying infantry. 
Still, you make a good point. I'm not sure whether the right to bear arms
makes politicians any more cautious -
