That's how it was explained to me while working at Big Blue back in the
mid-80s. Tools and rulers come to mind. All the outlets in the labs, clean
rooms, etc were pin-up. Made perfect sense to me and I've always installed
mine the same way since. Had to track down an older style nightlight when I
built my daughter's nursery a couple years back, as a result. The polarized
pins make the newer light hang upside down in that configuration.
