Actually, there has become, slowly, a group of hams who are populating 2 
meter AM. But, of course, it would depend on in which city you happen to be.

There isn't much around here, but our entire population base is less than 
60K.

There have been several articles in Electric Radio Magazine on 2 meter AM, 
and one, in particular, on the VHF ARC-5 transmitter.
