Hello John,
Forget PRC-47 in the kitchen. I have an important warning. Yes,
important.
I'm writing to warn about the dangers of storing an AWA (Amalgamated
Wireless Australiasia) VHF-UHF signal generator in the BEDROOM.
This A.W.A signal generator is the "mother of all signal generators" -
heavier than the old HP 606 (I think it was) sig-gen, and it sat on
the floor at the bottom of my bed.
I didn't have a better place to store it, and anyway by placing it
directly over a foundation pier I knew it wouldn't cause the 4x3 floor
bearers under the building to sag.
Unlike the HP-606 the AWA has square, sharp aluminum corners.
One night, about 2AM I was returning to my warm bed, not wearing
anything on my feet, when my foot caught the square corner of the
sig-gen.
I remember the pain clearly. It took some minutes to subside, I had
to put a sock on to deal with the bleeding. It was days before I
could walk properly again.
(Comparing my injury with yours - I see it was identical - the 4th
toe. Is there a general rule here?)
I conclude :: Your warning about storing should be extended to all
rooms of the house, and to any heavy electronics gear.
Either that - or wear shoes.
