I remember a fun afternoon many years ago going through our company file of Mil Specs on micro-film. I got a particular delight was over the Mil -specifications for Chilli. Yes Virginia there is mil -spec chilli but there is no indication from the mandated ingredients that it is particularly hot as one would imagine Mil-Spec chilli should be.

Unfortunately, the revisions available don't go back as far as I often
desire, but then again, it's authoritative and even better, it's free.

For example, I could look up MS3106 and MS3102 connectors and figure out what would fit some of my gear. When I worked where we had milspecs on film I would even enjoy going to look for something specific and then in the process stumbling on something else. Did you know they even had an MS part number for an M41 tank - the whole tank? And that they had a military specification for the APN-1 that described the circuits, verbally?
