Another wild idea
Inductive coil-to-coil coupling has the 180 degrees phase shift with respect to capacitive coil-to-coil coupling.  So in principal it is possible to reduce the net coupling by adding a small amount of capacitive coupling to a pair of inductively coupled coils.  I've see this mentioned in 1930's era radio design handbooks.
