Adding the following:
*
**The **UHF connector**, also called the **Amphenol coaxial connector
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphenol>**,**^[2]
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UHF_connector#cite_note-2> **is a **World
War II <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II>**threaded **RF
connector <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RF_connector>**design, from an
era when "**UHF <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra_high_frequency>**"
referred to frequencies over 30 **MHz
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MHz>**.**^[3]
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UHF_connector#cite_note-ARRLHandbook1940-3> **Originally
intended for use as a **video
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video>**connector in **RADAR
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RADAR>**applications, the connector was
later used for **RF
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_frequency>**applications. This
connector was developed on basis of a shielded **banana plug
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana_plug>**.* Quackenbush was maybe
ahead of his times. In talking with the late Leo Young (NRL scientist
emeritus), the PL-259 was the only connector available for the task,
short of maybe the Brit "PYE" connector. The PL-259 will arguably
become the DC-3 of radio.........!!
