Mark: that transformer is not WWII vintage: I recognize it. It is one that was 
available from Radio Shack up until quite recently. I cannot remember the 
impedances, but I THINK it was from 1K CT to 8 ohms.

I have used those transformers as "high impedance" to 8 ohm transformers. 
They work fairly well for that.

For one thing, the mounting tab on the end that can be seen has been 
"scrunched". If you opened that up, you would see what I mean.

Secondly, from the bare shape of the "box" that is holding the mic element, 
that does not look, to me, like a T-17. That "box" appears to be "tear-drop" 
shaped, whereas, as I remember it, the element box on a T-17 was round.

If you could post photos of the complete mic we could give you more accurate 
advice.

BTW, good job on your setup. It is beautiful. How is the transmitted CW 
quality? Chirp gone now?
