Hello Ken,

Dr Drake was at least a genius when it came to design. He supported Major 
Edwin Armstrong who had just been screwed over by Davidoff Sarnoff WRT his 
invention of the super-heterodyne principle. If he needed a component and 
there wasn't one available, he designed and made one. Just look at those 
high-stab, light-weight Rx chasses, and the high-stab padding capacitors, 
for instance ...
I gather he was also a consummate political wheeler and dealer. I suspect 
Gordon Eliot White knows.
Drake's main shortcoming was rapid scaling-up of manufacturing.
