Your comment reminds me of:
Why do the British drink beer warm?

I feel likewise. It's fun to quote all the cliche's about the unreliability of older British stuff. But when I think of the stuff I have actually owned, I feel pretty affectionate. When I lived in Miami for a year, I had an MGB. There was ALWAYS something wrong with it. But it would always start and run and get me to where I wanted to go. Hot as hell down by the legs though during those Miami summers. Similarly the old Triumph and BSA bikes all leaked oil and would definitely need a top end rebuild shortly after 15K miles. OTOH, my trusty BSA 500 that I bought for $150 from a used car dealer got me through my University of Georgia years without a hiccup.

So I dunno....

I don't know... In the late 60's I had an Austin A40 "Farina", (bought used)
all Lucas electrical equipment and positive ground. I never had any
electrical or other problems with it. I had a Drake TR-3 transceiver in it,
I just had to modify the supply and lift the negative from the ground. I
also ran a Wireless Set 19 mobile in it once in a while and working Europe
on 40 M CW with it wasn't unusual. I had the car for 5 years before I sold
it. My XYL had an MGB for a few years which never gave her any trouble. (I
didn't know her then, but if I did, I wouldn't have let her sell it...). It
was regularly maintained at a shop specializing in British cars.

As they say, our mileage may vary...

My favorite not-to-remember is from the electrical equipment in my
positive-ground 1956 Triumph TR-3.  It was equipped with items supplied
by the "Prince of Darkness", Lucas Electric!!!
