My bedside radio in high school was from a 1952 Ford. 60 foot longwire
just stuck into the antenna jack. 12" speaker from an old TV set.

Living in a small town in central Nevada, KRLA (Los Angeles) would
boom in every morning. I would turn the radio on before sunrise, and
listen to the farm reports from an Iowa station until sunrise, when KRLA
went to daytime power, and took over the frequency.

At night, KOMA from Oklahoma was a regular, along with KFWB
(when they were a rocker), and a host of other stations.

Nowadays, the AM band is just no fun.
